It's holding up a mirror to the news media, who focus so heavily on the terrors and misery of the world until you can start to forget that not everything is horrible. They would have you believe life is nothing but disaster after disaster, and maybe it is. But the token "lighter side" stories are actually far more common than the catastrophes and evils. But tragedy sells, and that's everyone's fault. Look at yourselves, news media! Look at what the Inquirer sees you as!

...is what I'd like to say. As far as I can tell, Joe got a wild hair about five days ago and said "Say, y'know what's funny? Sad things!".
